Kitchen Chimney Losing Suction? Dehradun Cleaning & Repair Guide (2026)
Why Indian kitchen chimneys choke within months, what a real deep service includes, auto-clean myths, brand-wise tips and 2026 chimney service prices in Dehradun.
If your kitchen fills with smoke during a tadka even though the chimney is running at full speed, the unit is almost certainly not faulty. It is saturated. Indian cooking pushes oil vapour into every internal surface, and once the blower wheel is coated, suction collapses regardless of the motor rating printed on the box.
Where the grease actually hides
- Baffle or mesh filters — the only part most people ever clean
- The blower wheel, where a 2 mm grease coat can cut airflow by a third
- The inner housing and motor mount
- The duct's first bend, which collects condensed oil and drips back
- The non-return flap at the wall exit, which sticks shut when gummed up
Auto-clean does not mean self-cleaning
Auto-clean simply heats a coil so collected oil drains into a removable bowl. It never touches the blower wheel, the housing or the duct. Every auto-clean chimney we open in Dehradun after a year of use still needs a full manual strip-down.
Common faults and what they cost
| Problem | Cause | Dehradun price (2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Weak suction, smoke in kitchen | Grease-choked filters and blower | ₹699 – ₹1,299 (deep service) |
| Rattling or humming noise | Unbalanced wheel or worn motor bushes | ₹900 – ₹2,200 |
| Auto-clean not working | Heater coil or control board | ₹800 – ₹3,200 |
| Oil dripping onto hob | Overflowing collector, filter fitted wrong | ₹300 – ₹800 |
| Motor dead | Winding failure or capacitor | ₹2,200 – ₹4,500 |
| New chimney installation | Fitting + duct + wall core cut | ₹1,200 – ₹3,000 |
What a real deep service includes
Power isolated, hob and counter sheeted, filters and blower wheel removed and hot-degreased, housing and oil collector cleaned, motor bushes and capacitor checked, duct joints and non-return flap re-sealed, then a smoke test to prove suction in front of you. Anything short of removing the blower wheel is a wipe-down, not a service.
How often, for a Doon kitchen
- Daily frying household: every 4–5 months
- Average family cooking: every 6 months
- Light or mostly-boiled cooking: every 8–10 months
- Auto-clean models: same schedule — the electronics do not change the grease load
Choosing a chimney for a Dehradun kitchen
For a typical 10x12 ft Doon kitchen with an Indian cooking load, look for 1200–1400 m³/hr suction, baffle filters rather than mesh, and the shortest possible duct run with no more than one bend. Duct length and bends kill suction faster than any spec-sheet difference between brands.
Frequently asked questions
Which chimney brands do you service?
Faber, Elica, Hindware, Glen, Kaff, Sunflame, Bosch and most other brands sold in Dehradun, including ducted and ductless models.
Will a deep service really restore suction, or do I need a new chimney?
In roughly 8 out of 10 cases a full strip-down service restores near-original suction. We only recommend replacement when the motor winding or body is genuinely finished.
How messy is a chimney service?
Not at all, when done properly. We sheet the hob and counter, use collection trays for the degreaser and take the parts outside for washing.
Same-day service. Pay only after the job is done.
